How to Get Your Score
You can obtain your credit score by contacting any of the three credit reporting companies, similar to ordering your credit report. However, you may have to pay for this score. Your score may be calculated using a number of different scoring systems, including:
- FICO: refers to the Fair Isaac Corporation, the company who invented it. Go to www.myFICO.com to obtain this score, which is used most often by potential lenders.
- Beacon: this is the same thing as your FICO score, as provided by, and available for purchase from Equifax.
- Fair Isaac Risk Model: this is the same thing as your FICO score, as provided by Experian.
- FICO Risk Score, Classic: this is the same thing as your FICO score, as provided by TransUnion. It can be purchased at www.myFICO.com.
- VantageScore: a credit scoring system jointly developed by Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. It uses a different model to calculate credit scores and is based on a scale of 501-990.
- PLUS Score: a credit scoring system developed by Experian. It is calculated differently than FICO scores and is based on a scale of 330-830.
- TransRisk New Account Score: a credit scoring system developed by TransUnion. It is calculated differently than FICO scores and is based on a scale of 330-830.
